Colour, the joy of it!

“Colour is fun, colour is just plain gorgeous, a gourmet meal for the eye, the window of the soul.” – Rachel Wolf.

 My latest paintings. Acrylic on blocked canvas: 15 × 30 " / 38 × 77 cm.
I am preparing for my art exhibition in Brooklyn Art Gallery in Pretoria in August-October.

A new painting

After five days of painting a so well-known dirt road, I finally was satisfied with the result! I knew I should trust my imagination....the flowers are not there in real life, but who cares? An artist can do what he/she wants to! Oil on blocked canvas. (36 × 36 " = 91.44 cm. × 91.44 cm.)

Most of my best memories come from some old dirt road
This painting also makes me think of Psalm 23:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

The Ocean

My latest painting: The Ocean....One of these days I will enjoy a wonderful privilege and opportunity to exhibit my art in Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria, South Africa. The exhibition will be from the 21 August until the 1st of October 2014. I realise that this is such a blessing and I thank God for the talent He gave me to enjoy my passion everyday!
I used a palette knife, sponge and brush to create this painting. Oil on blocked, stretched canvas 380g, 100% cotton, solid wood construction, back staple finishing. 36 × 36 ".

ART is my passion

Here are examples of art which I so enjoyed to create. As you view my work, I hope that you will find something that resonates with you.

Acrylic on canvas. Done with a palette knife. The original is 128 cm. × 102 cm. and sold. This was a commission and a great challenge. I enjoyed every minute of painting it!! I live in South Africa and Rick Heller ( who bought it) in the USA. He also wrote the beautiful poem.
What a joy it is to share our creativity and God-given talents!

Whisper
A gentle breeze moves across the water
Glides by, simple, quiet, and listens…

Early morning, cold night turns over, sleeps
A breeze, pushed by morning light, blinks
Quiet embers of orange, replaced by yellow
Stretch, yawn and roll out for the day

Water is pushed by the wind, faint, but moves
Tides beckon, water knows no master,
Clatter of gulls, and of boats, tap
Like a finger, on the pane, “wake up”

Buoys sit, jewels upon a field of blue, smiling
Their catch buried deep…hold fast
Gulls lift with laughter, men sweat with diesel
A days catch revealed, gulls feed, stories made

Waves begin, blue with anticipation, white with regret
Move and roll, excited for the journey, renewal
No boundaries, limitless, green and blue wrestle
Cold, deep, dark cold, blue wins

Island is refuge, the breeze belongs, a resting place
Mist rolls and licks the branches, pine cones’ rattle
Speak of hope, longing, for the future
Moss and lichen, revel the view, driftwood lies

Rocks abound, timeless time, revealed on shore
Colors of yesterday, ancient mariners for today
Provide respite, shells and seaweed take hold
Light provides warmth, stones reveal story

Early morning, a simple breeze lifts
Ignited by light and color, it moves
Enveloped in beauty and trust, it listens
Revealed by sight and sound, gently
In whispers of hushed tones, to us, this day…

A gentle breeze moves across the water
Glides by, simple, quiet, and …

“shhhhh…want to know a secret"?

COLOUR IS FUN!

Acrylic on canvas: 36 × 48 " (92 × 102 cm. )
This is a commission for Kara Kuryllowicz in Toronto, Canada.
I dedicate this painting to all the wonderful people all over the world who buy art from enthusiastic artists like me! And I thank God for the talent He gave me.
This is a commission and my client is happy! So am I!
There are many similarities between different countries. For me this could be in the Drakensberg, South Africa. For my client it looks like Michigan, USA.

The stone in the water knows nothing of the hill which lies parched in the sun. (African Proverb)
I was thinking about the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa while painting this.
The Zulu people named it ‘Ukhahlamba’ and the Dutch Voortrekkers ‘The Dragon Mountain’. The Drakensberg Mountains, with their awe-inspiring basalt cliffs, snowcapped in winter, tower over riverine bush, lush yellowwood forests and cascading waterfalls, form a massive barrier separating KwaZulu-Natal from the Kingdom of Lesotho. The only road access to the Drakensberg is via Sani Pass, which at the top, boasts the highest pub on Africa, 3 000 metres above sea level.

After the storm

And after the storm,
I run and run as the rains come
And I look up, I look up,
on my knees and out of luck,
I look up.

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more

tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your
fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,

With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.
Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~ George Eliot
Irish Blessing.

May the good earth be soft under you
when you rest upon it,
and may it rest easy over you when,
at the last, you lay out under it,
And may it rest so lightly over you
that your soul may be out
from under it quickly,
and up, and off,
And be on its way to God.
